Missing Moves - February 2021

At the Big Timber Creek bridge they have started to install pilings that will support the new center section of the bridge.

Work along 295 North where the new ramps will cross over Creek Road.

Here is a look at that area from Creek Road. The support on the right is for the ramp from 42 North to 295 South and will cross over 295 to join to the south bound side. The support on the left is for the ramp from 295 North to 42 South and will be a ground based ramp.

Center support is being built for the new Creek Road overpass.

Here is the approach to the the Creek Road overpass. You can see how the overpass will be shifted towards the north.

Here is the other side of the overpass.

The ramp from 42 North to 295 South

Another overpass support being built near the exit from 42 South onto Leaf Ave and Harding Ave.

Work between 42 North and Benigno Ave.

Direct Connect Article

There was a good article published recently on the Construction Equipment Guide web site about the direct connect project:

https://www.constructionequipmentguide.com/jersey-awaits-its-direct-connection/51251

The article has some interesting technical details of the construction project, but the most interesting part this quote about the Browning Road bridge:

“As for tasks that have yet to be completed, NJDOT is in the process of securing additional work area needed for the temporary Browning Road bridge assembly.”

So this confirms my assumption that the temporary bridge would be pre-fabricated and then moved into place over 42. I had heard rumors of problems acquiring property but I didn’t realize exactly what this property was needed for. Until the Browning Road overpass re-construction is complete there isn’t a lot more that can be done on the project.

October 2021 Aerials–Direct Connect

Google has recently updated the aerial photos of the Bellmawr area with ones take in October of 2021, so it’s a good change to look at the progress.

This picture shows the new 295 main line as it passes the cemetery approaching Browning Road. At the top is the ground based portion of the road which transitions into an overpass as it nears Browning Road, the blue and yellow lines show where this transition will happen. The blue arrow is showing a set of supports for the overpass which were recently constructed. The red arrow at the top is a foundation for another set of supports which have been build since this picture was taken. The red arrow towards the bottom shows another foundation that will be under the temporary Browning Road overpass and I assume will get another overpass support once the Browning Road work is done. The yellow arrow is pointing to some tracks that were installed a while back. I believe these are going to be used to push a pre-fabricated bridge over 76 to be used as the temporary Browning Road overpass while the current one is re-built.

The blue lines in this picture show where the temporary Browning Road overpass will eventually go. The supports on both sides and in the middle are complete, they just need to install the bridge. The supports for the current bridge need to be pushed back on the left side of the picture to make room for the ramp that will come from 76 East to 295 South.

This image shows the final configuration of the interchange. The blue lines show the path of the mainline which will connect the northern and southern parts of 295 into one continuous highway and will eliminate the need for the Al-Jo curve. The red lines are the ramp from 42 North to 295 North. The start of this ramp has already been built and will eventually transition into an aerial ramp which will merge into the mainline. The yellow lines on the left are the new ramp from 76 East to 295 South. This ramp will branch of the current ramp from 76 East to 295 North, pass under Browning Road and merge into the mainline heading south.
