March 2019 - Part 2

Here is a recent picture of the area between the north and south bound lanes of 295 where the start of the new mainline overpass will eventually begin.

You can see the sides of the overpass where it goes over the tunnel, I have marked these in blue. This gives you an idea of home the end of the overpass will shaped and link up with the rest of the road.

Work also continues over the tunnel on the noise barrier along the cemetery. 

March 2019 - Part 1

There has been a lot of work going on over the past few weeks. First is the tunnel to North bound 295. A few weeks ago the lanes from from 76 East were routed into the tunnel along with the ones coming from 42 North. This is a much better traffic pattern then it was with just the lanes from 42. There are not five lanes going into the tunnel which merge down to four just after. The traffic lights will normally be green and will only be changed if there is a need to close one of the lanes in the tunnel..

Here is the inside of the tunnel where you can see the large number of lights on the wall. The number of lights in use varies with the time of day.

Here is the exit of the tunnel. You can also see the rock that has been put on the slope below the cemetery and the finished retaining wall capped off with a fence.

Febraury 2019

A few weeks ago the traffic from 42 North going to 295 N was re-routed into the newly constructed tunnel. Here you can see the three lanes going into the tunnel where they merge down into two. The traffic lights are normally green and are only used when they need to close a lane in the tunnel

The tunnel walls are lined with a large number of lights. The number of lights that are turned on seems to vary by the time of day.

At the other end of the tunnel, paving work is being done to get ready for when the 76 East ramp lanes are re-routed into the tunnel.

Work also continues along 42 North by the ramp from 295. This is where the ramp from 42 North to 295 North will eventually go.

February 2019

A new work area has started up recently along 42 North just after the ramp from 295 South. This is where the ramp from 42 North up to the new 295 main line will eventually be.

 Work on the other side of 42/76 has slowed down recently, although they still do continue to put in pilings in this pit. I assume there will be a support for the overpass here.

The most activity recently has been around the new tunnel along 295 North. By the time you read this traffic coming off of 42 North will have been re-routed into this tunnel. Over the next few weeks the ramp from 76 East will be re-routed into that tunnel also which will free up room to continue construction of the main line overpass.

Some finishing work has been done at the end of the tunnel. The hill side has been cleaned up and covered in stone and a railing as been added to the top of the retaining wall.

January 2019

Here is a look at the entrance to the tunnel that will eventually carry the 76 West to 295 North ramp. Short term all the traffic lanes going north on 295 will route through here to make room for other construction. On the right you can see the retaining being capped off.

Since that picture was taken traffic lights have been added before the tunnel. I believe these will be used to open and close lanes in the tunnel.

Now that the tunnel is complete they are using the top to provide access needed to finish the top of the retaining wall.

Construction continues on the retaining wall between 42 and the cemetery. At the end of the wall are the supports for the 295 main line overpass.

A new section of noise barrier has been built along the cemetery.

Work continues just below the Browning Road overpass. Part of a noise barrier has been constructed and work continues on foundations for more supports for the main line overpass.

December 2018

Here is a look at the 76 East to 295 North tunnel. You can see a concrete pumper pouring the last section of the roof. The used plastic to wall off the section of the tunnel where the roof was being poured. I assume this was done to control the temperature.

A new section of retaining wall has been started just south of the Browning Road overpass.

They have also started a new section of noise barrier in this area.

The area along the church parking has been cleaned up. I assume this will eventually get re-paved.

Here is a look at the supports for the 295 main line near the cemetery. They have recently started to construct retaining wall around the supports.

The supports for the temporary Browning Road overpass have been complete of quite some time now but there hasn’t been any more progress on the overpass since then.

November 2018

Work continues on the tunnel that will carry  the traffic coming from 76 East under the new 295 main line

The beams for the roof of the tunnel were set a couple weeks ago then covered in corrugated steel and recently that have started pour the concrete roof. In the upper right you can also see some new noise barrier work.

Paving has been done in the area after the tunnel.

Work in the area between the Al-Jo curve and the Browning Road overpass is almost complete for now. The area has been paved and a fence installed on top of the retaining wall.

There is still a lot of work going on below the Browning Road overpass

The have started to excavate some pits in this area which I assume are going to be for support columns for the main line overpass.
